Diddy the Teddy Blanket – Free Crochet Pattern. My inspiration for this pattern was a request for table place settings/favours for babies that were attending a wedding.  These were made to match the wedding colours with their names embroidered on, but these can be made in any colour with or without the name.

For your Diddy the Teddy Blanket you will need:

Stitches / Abbreviations: (US Crochet Terms)

  • MR – Magic Ring
  • SC – Single Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • INC – Increase
  • DEC – Decrease
  • SS – Slip Stitch
  • St/Sts – Stitch / Stitches

Diddy the Teddy Blanket – Free Crochet Pattern

Head – Light Grey (Main Body Colour)

  • Make a magic ring (MR),
  • 6SC into MR (6sts) – do not join to first stitch, carry on working in the round
  • INC in each st x 6 (12sts)
  • 1SC, INC x 6 (18sts)
  • 2SC, INC x 6 (24sts)
  • 3SC, INC x 6 (30sts)
  • 4SC, INC x 6 (36sts)
  • 5SC, INC x 6 (42sts)
  • 6SC, INC x 6 (48sts)
  • 1SC in each st x 8 rows (48sts)
  • 6SC, DEC x 6 (42sts)
  • 5SC, DEC x 6 (36sts)
  • 4SC, DEC x 6 (30sts)
  • 3SC, DEC x 6 (24sts) * Start Stuffing with soft toy filling *
  • 2SC, DEC x 6 (18sts)
  • 1SC, DEC x 6 (12sts)
  • DEC x 6 (6sts)
  • SS, Fasten off (leaving a long piece of yarn for sewing together)

Snout (nose) – Light Grey yarn

  • Make a magic ring (MR),
  • 6SC into MR (6sts) – do not join to first stitch, carry on working in the round
  • INC in each st x 6 (12sts)
  • 1SC, INC x 6 (18sts)
  • 2SC, INC x 6 (24sts)
  • 1SC in each st x 4 rows (24sts)
  • SS, Fasten off (leaving a long piece of yarn for sewing to face).

  • Sew the nose onto the teddy bears head.  Start stuffing the nose once you have sewn approximately 2/3rds of the nose on.

Inner Ears – Purple yarn (make 2)

  • Make a magic ring (MR),
  • 6SC into MR (6sts) – do not join to first stitch, carry on working in the round
  • INC in each st x 6 (12sts)
  • 1SC, INC x 6 (18sts)
  • 2SC, INC x 6 (24sts)
  • SS, Fasten off (leaving a long piece of yarn for sewing together) 

Outer Ears – Light Grey yarn (make 2)

  • Make a magic ring (MR),
  • 6SC into MR (6sts) – do not join to first stitch, carry on working in the round
  • INC in each st x 6 (12sts)
  • 1SC, INC x 6 (18sts)
  • 2SC, INC x 6 (24sts) * Do not fasten off *

Place inner & outer ear pieces together (wrong sides facing together) then join them together by 1SC into both inner and outer edge stitches of both pieces to end (24sts).  DO NOT STUFF

  • SS, Fasten off (leaving a long piece of yarn for sewing to head)

Sew each ear to either side of the teddy bears head.

Arms – Purple Yarn (Make 2)

  • Make a magic ring (MR),
  • 6SC into MR (6sts) – do not join to first stitch, carry on working in the round
  • INC in each st x 6 (12sts)
  • 1SC, INC x 6 (18sts)
  • 2SC, INC x 6 (24sts)
  • 1SC in each st x 2 rows (24sts)
  • Change to light grey yarn
  • 1SC in each st x 2 rows (24sts)
  • 2SC, DEC x 6 (18sts)
  • 1SC in each st x 3 rows (18sts)
  • continue –
  • 1SC, DEC x 6 (12sts)
  • 1SC in each st x 2 rows (12sts)
  • Start stuffing 
  • DEC x 6 (6sts)
  • 1SC in each st x 1 row (6sts)
  • SS, Fasten off (leaving a long piece of yarn for sewing together)

Sew the eyes, nose and mouth onto the teddy bears face with purple yarn.

Blanket

  • Make a magic ring (MR),
  • (working inside ring), CH5, 2DC, CH3, 3DC, CH3, 3DC, CH3, 2DC, Slst into 3rd CH of start.
  • CH5 in the corner, 4DC, CH3, 5DC, CH3, 5DC, CH3, 4DC, SLST INTO 3RD CH of start
  • Carry on working as above, increasing the DCs for each row.
  • CHANGE COLOUR EVERY 3rd ROW
  • Complete 3 rows Purple, 3 rows Light Grey, 3 rows Purple, 3 rows Light Grey
  • In Purple, SC in each ST around, following the number of increases in the corners x 7 rows
  • SS, Fasten off
  • Sew in end strands
  • Sew arms and head to the middle of the blanket securely

Embroider names in contrasting yarn if required
