I have been playing about with Tunisian crochet lately (also known as Afghan crochet) but have not really made anything with it …. until now!
I purchased a cheap pack of Tunisian crochet hooks from Amazon. I didn’t want to spend too much on them just in case I hated it lol.
Happily I can say I don’t hate it, I absolutely love this sort of crochet. It’s like a hybrid of crochet and knitting, using a long needle like knitting but with a crochet hook on the end. See pic:
The Tunisian simple stitch (TSS) pattern is so easy once you get into it and the texture of the finished piece turns out really lovely. It creates a quite dense fabric, perfect for warm cosy pillows, blankets and Afghans.
I found this easy to follow pattern / tutorial:
I was originally planning on making a white and lemon check baby blanket but I changed my mind halfway through (as you do 😂) and I am now in the process of making a tote bag.
Here’s a few pictures of what the Tunisian simple stitch (TSS) looks like. The front side looks a bit like a grid:
The back looks wavy / bumpy:
The added bonus of this simple pattern is it gives a grid like finish to the front side of pattern, which makes it so easy to add surface crochet / cross stitch on to.
Not really neat and I haven’t got a clue what I’m trying to make with the cross stitch above but hey you get the idea …. right?!
I can feel endless possibilities of new ideas coming to life!
See you all soon with more ideas and projects
