To make this project you will need:

5 different colours of card

I used all 5 colours from the A4 Premium Card Pack – Purple Shades from hobbycraft. They have loads of lovely colours in this range.

Link to the card I used: https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/purple-premium-card-a4-50-pack/626609-1011

Adhesive Spray

I used adhesive spray for this project. All layers except the very top one I have used the adhesive spray on. This gives a flat kind of look to the project.

(NOTE: Open the window and cover your workspace, this spray smells really strong and even though I had a A3 pad covering my workspace it still got everywhere lol).

The adhesive spray that I used is not showing online but I bought from Hobbycraft and it was called ‘Permanent Adhesive Spray 200ml’

If you want a more 3D look use foam pads in between the layers. (NOTE: try to hide the foam pads under each layer by cutting them to size so you can’t see them).

Self Adhesive Vinyl for the very top layer

I used the light purple out of this pack from Amazon : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WGVPC1L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I find that the very top layer has very small intricate cuts and the foam pads/glue is hard work to get it to adhere. So you can either cut out of card and spray glue the top layer on to the layer below or use the self adhesive vinyl.

Blue Light Grip Cricut Mat

I used the blue light grip mat for all the layers.

Settings:

Cricut settings

I made the SVG smaller to fit the paper I had – 20cm wide x 18.5cm length.

Material setting for the self adhesive vinyl – PREMIUM VINYL

Material setting for the other layers – LIGHT CARDSTOCK – 60lb (163gsm)

NOTE: there may be better settings but these are the ones that worked for me.

Materials:

Lotus Flower Woman Mandala - Free Layered SVG

I always customise my projects before going ahead and making them. I like to play around with the colours and layers to see what it will look like before I commit. As you can see below I changed the colours for each layer in customiser to match what colour card I wanted to use. It helps to try and find a colour in design space as close as a match to the colour card stock you are using.

Once you turn each layer into the colour you want you will see that all your mats will be colour coded for easy reference when making your project.

On design space my mats loaded up like this:

Cricut Layer 1
Cricut – Layer 1
Cricut Layers 2
Cricut Layers 2

Lotus Flower Woman Mandala – Settings and Materials I used for this project:

Mat 1

  • Materials: Self-adhesive vinyl and transfer tape – First Edition Adhesive Gloss Vinyl | 12 Colours | 52 inc 4 Transfer Tape Sheets from Amazon
  • Colour: Light purple (this I set to white because I didn’t want to confuse my machine with the light purple card on mat 5)
  • Mat: Blue LightGrip
  • Cricut material setting: Premium vinyl setting
  • Average Cut time – 12 mins
  • Average Weeding time – 16 mins

Mat 2

  • Materials: 250gsm Card stock from B&M Hobby World A4 Card 20pk – Silver
  • Colour: Silver
  • Mat: Green StandardGrip
  • Cricut material setting: Heavy Card stock – 270gsm (it struggled to cut all the way through on this setting, I may try adding more pressure next time)
  • Average Cut time – less than a minute

Mat 3

Mat 4

Mat 5

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE HEAD PART TO ALL LAYERS EXCEPT THE SILVER LAYER

Lotus Flower Woman Mandala - Layered - Head
I nearly lost her head and my own after realising I’d threw her head away with the scrap!

Lotus Flower Woman Mandala – Assemble

I used a glue stick to layer all the pieces together, except the top vinyl layer.

NOTE: I am off to purchase a glue pen and mounting spray because those glue sticks are messy lol!

Bottom layer – Mat 2 Silver card stock

2nd layer – Mat 5 Light purple card stock

3rd layer – Mat 4 Dark purple card stock

4th layer – Mat 3 Dark blue card stock

5th layer – Mat 1 Light purple self adhesive vinyl

This project took me approximately a hour to create start to finish.

Have fun creating your own and try different colours. I would love to see your different designs, so please post your creations in the comments below.

6 different colours of card

The cardstock used in this project is the pink colour spectrum pad from hobbycraft. It includes a lovely range of colours and 2 shimmery/glittery colours included.

Glue stick and foam pads

You will use both the glue sticks and the adhesive foam pads for this project. On every layer except the very top one I have used the foam pads to give depth to the project.

(NOTE: try to hide the foam pads under each layer by cutting them to size so you can’t see them, not like I have done lol).

Use the glue stick to attach the shimmer/glitter card to the layer below. It has very small intricate cuts and the foam pads just wont work.

Green Standard Grip Cricut Mat

You could use blue light grip mat and it cut every layer fine until the top glitter paper. It then decided to move on the mat and screwed itself up! I was not happy wasting my precious materials. Don’t get me wrong it was a nightmare trying to get it off the mat afterwards but at least it wasn’t ripped into pieces lol.

Cricut settings

Adjust the SVG design to fit the paper size you are using – 20cm wide x 19cm length.

Material setting for the shimmer/glitter paper – SHIMMER PAPER

Cardstock Material setting for the other layers – LIGHT CARDSTOCK – 60lb (163gsm)

NOTE: there may be better settings but these are the ones that worked for me.

Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart – Free Layered SVG

Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart

Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart – This morning at Beejui Creations I have had my first attempt at making 3D Mandalas!

Since having my Cricut Maker delivered just over a week ago I’ve been playing around with card, paper & vinyl.

There are lots of lovely mandala effect projects on Facebook & Pinterest and I really like them so I’ve been dying to give them a go.

Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart - Free Layered SVG
Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart

The A3 craft card used for this project was from B&M. (I had to use a purple coloured card from a pack from amazon due to no purple in this pack!)

First attempt I cut the top off the hearts …. well I didn’t the machine did! NOTE: A4 size card does not fit the biggest heart on lol

Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart - paper too small
Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart – Hahaha I’ll use bigger card stock next time!

Second attempt I accidentally ripped the top intricate detailed heart but managed to glue it on so you can only tell if you look close enough.

Rainbow 3D Mandala Heart - Torn
I’ll be more careful in the future!

Hooray for glue sticks! They are now my best friend ever!

Rainbow 3D Mandala Heart - on Cricut maker
I love this machine 🙂

To make this Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart project you will need:

  • Cricut Maker – Shop Cricut
  • Cricut Design Space – Cricut Design Space™
  • Mandala Heart SVG (link below to this lovely file)
  • 6 different colours card A3 or 12”x12” (I went with rainbow colours but you could do an ombré effect with different shades of the same colour)
  • Glue stick
  • Lots of patience and a steady hand for the top heart lol

The link for this SVG is from here:

https://specialheartstudio.com/free-layered-alpha-mandala-svg-set/

They design some brilliant mandala SVG’s. They also do alphabet, numbers & punctuation mandala designs. I will be definitely having a go at them soon.

For this first attempt I have just glued all the layers straight onto each other. Further down you will see the next project where I used foam pads to give it more depth.

First Colour Way
Rainbow 3D Mandala Heart - second colour way
Second Colour Way

I think I prefer the second colour way, but both look great for the first attempt.

Smaller Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart using Foam Pads

I made the heart smaller on design space by reducing the size to 15cm and cut out the same as the bigger version.

Rainbow 3D Mandala Heart - small
Rainbow Layered Mandala Heart – small

I added foam spacers between the layers this time to give it more depth. It looks a bit more 3 dimensional, I like it!

The very top layer I did in vinyl instead of card stock. The card stock just didn’t want to play ball with it being smaller, it looked really awful. The vinyl was a pain to weed though but it looks so much better.

I attached the heart to light grey card stock with glue dots and framed it within a shadow box. I added a nice caption and made it into this lovely wall hanging.
