Personalised Fathers Day Frame – Cricut Project. This was originally designed and made as a gift for my father. I never know what to buy him so I came up with this idea and it turned out lovely.

This would make a great personalised gift for any occasion i.e. Fathers Day, Birthdays, Christmas etc. You could also make a female version too.

To clarify, this project was created on a Cricut Maker.

Materials

Firstly, you will need:

Cricut Maker – Shop Cricut

Cricut Design Space – Cricut Design Space™

You will need a shadow box frame. The frame shown in the pictures for example, is a grey 18cm x 18cm shadow box frame. Here is the link:

https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/grey-shadow-box-frame-18cm-x-18cm/651107-1000#qb_pr002_update

Also, you will need silver/charcoal glitter cardstock for the background. Here is the link to the one used in this project:

https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/grey-coloured-paper-pad-a4-24-pack/650960-1008

Furthermore, you will also need a 18cm piece of permanent vinyl for this project. This is the link for the vinyl I have used in this project (I used a white sheet out of this pack)

Process

Firstly, you will need a Cricut Maker machine and the design. The design is a saved project of mine in Cricut Design Space. However, to access this you may need a Cricut Access subscription. This is my link for the project:

Load the project onto Personalised Fathers Day Frame

Make it

Start the project by loading the Cricut machine with the mat and cardstock then press MAKE IT. Once completed, remove the mat and load the next mat with the white vinyl sheet. Before cutting the vinyl, check the MIRROR box then press MAKE IT.

As soon as the Cricut has finished cutting, eject the mat and carefully remove the cut vinyl sheet. At this stage you can proceed to weed your design.

TIP: for small writing, intricate designs etc. place transfer tape over the whole design before weeding it. Turn the design over, take the backing paper off and weed straight off of the transfer sheet. As a result this keeps all the tiny letters firmly stuck down and stops them moving about.

Personalised Fathers Day Frame – Cricut Project

To Finish

Start with opening the shadow box frame and carefully take the glass front out. Make sure it is clean, as any dust or smears may prevent the vinyl from adhering.

Then place the vinyl and transfer sheet centrally on the glass, burnish and remove transfer sheet carefully. Making sure all letters, including full stops and hearts, have adhered to the glass. Wipe over the glass with a lint free cloth to remove any smears or dust.

Replace the glass back into the frame then follow with the inner frame. Place the glitter square box cardstock cut out (background). Finally, attach the back of the shadow box frame.

All done! I hope you have enjoyed this project, let me know how yours turns out. Please leave a comment or contact me if you have any issues.

Firstly, you will need an acrylic blank ornament. The ornament shown in the pictures, for example, is a mirrored 8cm Acrylic 3mm thick circle from Woodform Crafts. Here is the link:

Silver Mirrored – https://www.woodformcrafts.co.uk/product/10-x-silver-mirror-acrylic-8cm-hanging-circle-wc1061/https://www.woodformcrafts.co.uk/product/10-x-silver-mirror-acrylic-8cm-hanging-circle-wc1061/

Secondly, you will need a Cricut machine –Shop Cricut and the design required for this is in Cricut Design Space – Cricut Design Space™. Subsequently, to access this you will need a Cricut Access subscription. This is the link for the file required:

https://design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/6037851537908b0cf4a26632

As soon as you have loaded the design, you can customize it more and add in text for the names and extra hearts etc.

Before clicking ‘Make it’ hide the 8cm back circle and select all of the design, then WELD.

This design uses timberly script font but if you do not have you can choose a font available to you. Or purchase the font from https://fontbundles.net/bundles (this was free on 25.02.21).

Process

As soon as the Cricut has finished cutting, eject the mat and carefully remove the cut vinyl sheet. At this stage you can proceed to weed your design.

TIP: for small writing, intricate designs etc. place transfer tape over the whole design before weeding it. Turn the design over, take the backing paper off and weed straight off of the transfer sheet. As a result this keeps all the tiny letters firmly stuck down and stops them moving about.

Lastly, you will need approximately 15cm of ribbon or cord to make the hanger for your ornament. I prefer the cord for a neater finish, link for this is below.

To make this project you will need:

Cricut MakerShop Cricut

Cricut design spaceCricut Design Space™

3D Mandala Letter SVG (link below)

5 different colours of card

I used all 5 colours from the A4 Premium Card Pack – Purple Shades from hobbycraft. They have loads of lovely colours in this range.

Link to the card I used: https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/purple-premium-card-a4-50-pack/626609-1011

This post contains affiliate links. If you use these links to buy something I may earn a commission. Thanks.

Adhesive Spray

I used adhesive spray for this project. All layers except the very top one I have used the adhesive spray on. This gives a flat kind of look to the project.

(NOTE: Open the window and cover your workspace, this spray smells really strong and even though I had a A3 pad covering my workspace it still got everywhere lol).

The adhesive spray that I used is not showing online but I bought from Hobbycraft and it was called ‘Permanent Adhesive Spray 200ml’

If you want a more 3D look use foam pads in between the layers. (NOTE: try to hide the foam pads under each layer by cutting them to size so you can’t see them).

Self Adhesive Vinyl for the very top layer

I used the light purple out of this pack from Amazon : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WGVPC1L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I find that the very top layer has very small intricate cuts and the foam pads/glue is hard work to get it to adhere. So you can either cut out of card and spray glue the top layer on to the layer below or use the self adhesive vinyl.

Blue Light Grip Cricut Mat

I used the blue light grip mat for all the layers.

Settings:

Cricut settings

I made the SVG smaller to fit the paper I had – 20cm wide x 18.5cm length.

Material setting for the self adhesive vinyl – PREMIUM VINYL

Material setting for the other layers – LIGHT CARDSTOCK – 60lb (163gsm)

NOTE: there may be better settings but these are the ones that worked for me.
